Information design is a branch of graphic design. It’s an approach to designing information that’s visually appealing while also making sense to the user.
Information design helps to make sharing complex ideas easier.
How do you share information in the clearest way possible? It must be both aesthetically pleasing and practical. To create designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional, everything in design projects needs to be done with purpose and intentionality. It focuses on the audience and how users perceive and interact with a design. This kind of design can have the capacity to both emotionally impact the user and enhance the user experience.
Everyday life depends on information design. It was used to develop the society we live in today and is present all around us.
Examples of information design can be seen in infographics, how-to videos, tutorials, search engines, product lists, websites, manuals, exhibits, infographics, street signs, and the list goes on and on.
I watched Dan Roam’s animated and directed visual explanation about the future of video games, called Community Economics. This video presents a design issue and a solution: building a vibrant gaming industry. It’s designed to promote the expansion of local economies through gaming. It’s a way to include and empower players while also producing something useful for developers. This would increase the economic benefits for all involved.
The first step they used is to define the problem. The issue between players and game creators was identified and characterized. They had to first come up with ideas and then define a well-thought-out solution, which is seen in step two of my image above. Step three is when they developed their concept and its workings, the building of the future game economy. Before releasing the finished product, they will want user testing. This film intends to excite viewers about an economy that can help the situation be resolved and improved. This is an information design strategy that addresses problems of the present while also generating fresh concepts, economies, and environments in which we can exist. The fifth and last step will be the public distribution of what they termed “the future of economics” in the film.
This particular film served as a demonstration of information design. Because it focuses on an audience to not only enhance and build on games but also to create a new economy in gaming. This is only one illustration of how information design works and contributes to a more promising future.
